Answering the Wh-words

Wh-words ask for information so it is not essential that their answer will be in yes or no.

  • Where is your brother?

This question asks for the complete information about the location. Answer in yes or no will be not conventional.

  • How old are you?

This question is asking about the age.

How to form Wh-words

Wh-words can be used with auxiliary verbs or without auxiliary verbs.

Wh-words without auxiliary verbs

  • How are you?
  • Who are you?
  • Where are you?

Wh-words without with auxiliary verbs

  • What do you do?
  • Why did you stop?

Negative Wh-words

When we want to use negative Wh-words, we use auxiliary verb “do” with the Wh-words.

  • Who wants a book?
  • Who doesn’t want a book?
  • Which movie ended?
