Nouns are one of the fundamental parts of speech in the English language. They are used to refer to people, places, things, and abstract concepts. There are several types of nouns based on their usage and semantic meaning. These include proper nouns, common nouns, collective nouns, abstract nouns, material nouns and countable nouns.

A noun is a name of person,place or thing.

 


Types Of Noun

There are 8 types of noun.Proper Noun, Collective Noun, Common Noun, Material Noun, Abstract Noun, Countable Noun, Uncountable Noun, and Concrete Noun.


1. Proper Noun

Proper Noun is a name of specific things, people, and places.They are always initially capitalized

Examples: Ali,London, Amazon.


2. Collective Noun

 A noun that refers to a group of people or things.

Examples: Team, flock, Bunch. Bouquet.


3. Common Noun

A common noun is a type of noun or naming word for general objects, places, people, and animals.It does not includes specific names

Examples: Boys,city,countries,chairs.


4. Material Noun

Material nouns are those nouns that are used for names of substances or materials which are used to make things.

Examples: Gold,cotton,wood,sand,etc.


5. Abstract Noun

An abstract noun is a name of something non-physical which is  conceptual that you can't observe directly with your senses.

Examples: Sadness,happiness, government,adulthood.


 6. Countable Noun

An countable noun is a name of anything that can be counted.

Examples: dog, cat, animal, man, person,bottle, box, coin, note, dollar.


7.  Uncountable Noun

Uncountable noun is a name of anything that cannot be counted.

Examples: Air,rice,water,milk,juice,sand.


8. Concrete Noun

An concrete noun is a name of some physical thing, person or place which can be observed directly with your senses.

Examples: Fox,pencil,car,rain,shoes,dog.
